Original Article: Hydration Party – Pre Burn Party in Reno

Reno Passport and The Beach are proud to present Hydration, a music and art event that will take place at 9pm on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at The Beach at Grand Sierra Resort . Hydration is intended to be a communal staging area and meeting place for those heading out to the playa in 2010. This year, Hydration will feature five local vendor booths that will showcase local artisans, fashion designers and more as well as music from Bay Area icon Smoove along with Jonboy, The Mener and EJ Luera.

Smoove (NewsBreakz)

San Francisco scene builder Smoove emerged out of the 90’s drum ‘n bass scene in S.F. and quickly became a fixture of the underground Breakz circuit in 2001. These days, his signature mix of nu skool breakz, funk and electronic dance music can be heard every weekend all over San Francisco’s night life, from underground warehouse parties to his residencies at The End Up, 1015 and Mighty.  Click here to hear him on Soundcloud.com

Jonboy (Dubalicious/Swag)

San Francisco-based Jonboy will perform at Hydration with a mix of Electro, Techno, House and Breaks. Since his early high school years at Chicago’s legendary Medusa’s nightclub, Jonboy has embraced all elemental sounds of electronic music. After moving to S.F., he has been exposed to the funky overtones of West Coast house that continue to shape his music today.

The Mener (Reno)

The Mener is a Reno-based electronic dance music DJ who brings a mix of electronic house music with an occasional break beat and reggae track to keep the crowd hooked. The Mener performs at electronic dance music events throughout the region.

EJ Luera (Reno)

Based out of Reno, EJ Luera is a DJ who has performed on just about every stage in town. EJ plays a variety of music, ranging from Hip Hop, Electronic Dance Music, House and Indie Rock.

Costumes and playa attire are strongly encouraged at Hydration. Presale tickets are available for $10 in Sparks at Prism Magic and in Reno at The Melting Pot World Emporium and Recycled Records. Tickets will be $15 at the door. For more event details, visit www.renopassport.com or download the Reno Passport iPhone events application.

Please RSVP on Facebook.

RP Tip: Smoove can be heard on Fog City Funk every Wednesday night at 8pm PST on Nu Skool Breaks Radio (nsbradio.co.uk).  Stay at the Grand Sierra Resort before and after burning man 2010.  Arrive to burning man inspired.

Original Article: Helping individuals to live independently

A contract, approved by the Reno City Council on Wednesday, will enable low income residents with disabilities to continue to live independently.

The $26,000 contract with Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living (NNCIL) will provide for accessibility improvements to homes of Reno residents. The funding is through Community Block Grants (CDBG).

NNCIL provides comprehensive services to the area’s disabled population. Each year since 1985 the City has provided CDBG funds to NNCIL for accessibility modifications. Under last fiscal year’s contract, NNCIL installed improvements such as ramps, grab bars, threshold ramps, porch lifts, handheld showers, ADA toilets, and widened doors. Additionally, they provided 272 individuals and businesses with technical assistance with ADA compliance.

The CDBG Program provides annual direct grants to communities that can be used to expand affordable housing and economic opportunities, to revitalize neighborhoods, and/or to improve community facilities and services, principally for the benefit of low to moderate income individuals.

The City of Reno receives annual CDBG allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Sidewalk improvements in the Linden-Grove area, the Oliver-Montello Neighborhood Revitalization, numerous pedestrian ramps within our community, and the West Street Market are just some examples of beneficial projects that were funded with the assistance of the CDBG Program.

For more information about Reno’s CDBG Program visit www.reno.gov, select “Government”, then “City Manager’s Office”, and “Community Resources.”

Original Article: Infected Mushroom at the Knit with Psilogod and Drinking with Clowns

Pre Sale Tickets are still available in Reno at Recycled Records and the Cal Neva Cage.

About Infected Mushroom:

Psy-Trance innovators Infected Mushroom have become one of the biggest electronic bands on the planet. Twice ranked among the world’s 10 best DJs by the bible of the scene, the U.K.’s DJ Magazine, the Israel-bred, L.A. based duo bring a frenetic rock energy to the form. Their explosive show, featuring guitars, live drums, intensely passionate vocals and an ambitious multimedia backdrop, ranks among the genre’s most unpredictably joyous events. And their recordings continually venture where other electronic acts fear to tread.
Amit “Duvdev” Duvedevani and Erez Eisen have been working for nearly two years on an aggressive new album – their first since 2007’s critically acclaimed Vicious Delicious – for dance-music visionary Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label. Duvdev describes the as-yet untitled record, recorded at Infected Mushroom Laboratory in L.A. and slated for a June 2009 release, as a return to the pair’s metal roots. Guests include singer Jonathan Davis of Korn, who lends his estimable pipes to the track “Smashing the Opponent.”

Oakenfold has worked closely with the band in an A&R capacity. “Paul’s known as a House DJ, so we weren’t sure how he’d feel about our heaviest material,” Duvdev reveals, “but he loved it. He’s really brought a lot of great energy and advice to the table.”

From the Ultra Fest in Miami to the Virgin Festival in Baltimore, from Mexico’s OMIX to Cali’s Coachella, from Brazil’s Ipanema Beach to Melbourne’s Metro Club, Infected Mushroom has averaged about 120 live performances per year. The band will honor that tradition in 2009, starting with a 17-date U.S. tour slated to kick off in Texas in March.

Original Article: Grant helps Reno Police Department’s enforcement of underage drinking laws

A $20,000 grant from the Nevada State Juvenile Justice Commission, approved by the Reno City Council on Wednesday, will be used for continued support of the Reno Police Department’s operations against underage drinking.

The grant funding will be used to conduct alcohol sales compliance checks and other law enforcement operations to reduce underage drinking which may include controlled juvenile party dispersal, fake identification checks, third party purchase intervention, juvenile DUI prevention/apprehension, and special events control.

The awarded grant does not require a match from local government and helps to offset law enforcement costs that would otherwise come from local government budgets.

Original Article: Lazer Sword and EPROM arrive for their first night at WüRK

Lazer Sword is a New York and San Francisco-based live electronic act and production duo at the forefront of an emerging sound fusing anything from rap, electro, dubstep and grime to form a new kind of club experience. On stage, Lazer Sword is a hands-on affair, evolving further with every performance. Atypical of most DJ/producer sets, Lazer Sword performs the material to the audience as a highly improvised live production showcase. Tried and true dance music with a flare for the boom-bap, Lazer Sword has built substantial buzz by way of their live shows, their recently released mixtapes Blap To The Future, an XLR8R podcast and an exclusive mix for Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBC Radio 1 show. They are currently finishing up remixes for Eliot Lipp, Machinedrum, STS9 and others.

“We like to make music that sounds like your favorite top 40 rap music chopped up into a tornado, filled with razor blades and molasses…. or maybe like Frank Zappa rocking the homemade Lil’ John tank-top at the rooftop party.  It’s fun to make and hopefully to listen to as well,” says the band’s website.

Also debuting in Reno this evening is EPROM from SF Bay Area. EPROM is known for his diverse, funky and energetic sets, which cross the lines between live remixing and manipulation of hip hop and dubstep with his own obscenely bass-heavy neurocrunk transmissions.  EPROM has played alongside artists like Flying Lotus, The Glitch Mob, Skream, Lazer Sword, Kode9, Mochipet, Rustie, and many others.  EPROM has worked with internationally renowned MCs and has slated multiple vinyl releases in the coming year.  DJ supporters include Starkey, Jakes, Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, Rustie, Megasoid, Zombie Disco Squad, Riton, Basement Jaxx, and BBC Radio One’s Mary Anne Hobbs

This very special evening at WüRK starts at 10pm and Love and Light, Auditory Canvas and BeeLow supports.  Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at door.  Tickets are available at The Melting Pot World Emporium, WüRK and www.initcketing.com.  21+.

Original Article: Artown After Dark

Artown After Dark is a music and art series that occurs throughout the month of July as part of Artown. This music and art series takes place well into the evening, after most Artown events have wrapped up, and features all local talent, with local bands and DJs paired with local artists to cross-promote the arts and music.

The music and art series takes place on the last four Friday nights of July at different venues and at different times around town.

Last year, the art and music series was held at West Street Market in conjunction with 100.9 KRZQ. This year, Artown After Dark will rotate to three different venues, providing more opportunities for artists to exhibit their work at locations across town, and is presented with Noisy Planet. As an online music community that helps artists in every corner of the world connect with fans and colleagues, Noisy Planet is dedicated to creating the easiest way for independent artists and bands to post and sell music online.

Every performing artist and band involved in the Artown After Dark art and music series will get a premium artist package, which includes their dedicated showcase page on Noisy Planet, a personalized URL so that fans can easily find the artist, one album uploaded to iTunes and top retailers, plus 100 guaranteed spins on internet radio.

Bands and artists will also get a supply of personalized 4”x6” postcards that can be handed out at work, school, or at gigs to help promote the artists’ presence on Noisy Planet.
