Firefighters were able to contain a fire to a single apartment at Sky Tavern Saturday morning. Residents of the attached caretaker’s apartment were home at the time and were able to get out unharmed.

Crews were slow to respond to the fire due to slick and icy road conditions on the Mt. Rose Highway. Firefighters also had to bring a water tender up the hill because there were no available fire hydrants at the scene.

The fire was contained to the single apartment; however the lodge did get some smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
